THE USTA ACCREDITATION PROGRAM FOR TEACHING ORGANIZATIONS

The United States Tennis Association (USTA) is the National Governing Body (NGB) for the sport of tennis in the United States, as appointed by the United States Olympic Committee (USOC).  The USTA is the recognized leader in promoting and developing the sport’s growth on every level in the U.S.

The USTA has set an objective to increase both the quantity and quality of tennis teaching professionals and coaches throughout the U.S. Therefore, the USTA has established the USTA Accreditation Program for Teaching Professionals and Coaches for certifying bodies operating within the U.S.

The goal of the new accreditation program is to set mandatory standards for the development of new tennis professionals and it will also include on-going coaching education for all certified professionals who are members of an accredited organization. This process will create uniform standards for coaches and will improve the level of tennis instruction nationwide.

The United States Professional Tennis Association (USPTA) is the only certifying organization that has met the standards of the USTA Accreditation Program.  Working with the USTA, the USPTA and its 12,000+ tennis teaching professionals and coaches will raise the standards of tennis delivery in the U.S, which includes:

  • Mandatory safety and educational standards such as SafePlay training and background checks
  • Rigorous pre-certification education
  • Experiential learning
  • Mandatory ongoing continuing education
  •

The USTA has designated Tennis Teaching Professionals who are members of an USTA-accredited organization with a check mark when you search for a coach.
